St. Louis man struck, killed by 18-year-old driving too fast

WASHINGTON CO., Mo. – An investigation is underway after a St. Louis man was fatally struck by a vehicle in Washington County over the weekend.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a vehicle driven by an 18-year-old from Potosi was traveling too fast as he approached a curve along Highway 185 just south of Strange Drive Sunday afternoon. He tried to avoid hitting a vehicle that was on the side of the road and ended up hitting the back of the vehicle. He continued to drive, crossed the center of the roadway and hit a pedestrian.

Paul Vandoren, 40, was pronounced dead at Mercy Hospital.

No other details have been released.
