St. Louis pastor holds vigil for lives lost in Sandy Hook shooting

"This whole month of December is always hard because this day is coming."

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- December 14, 2012 is a day Kathie Adams-Shepherd will remember forever.

She was the rector at a church in Newtown, Conn. Now, she is the pastor at Christ-Church Cathedral in downtown St. Louis.

Adams-Shepherd held a vigil to remember those who were killed at Sandy Hook Elementary.

"This whole month of December is always hard because this day is coming," she said.

At Thursday’s vigil, church members remembered the victims.

"My son was actually a first responder with the fire department, in Newtown, so I knew right away what was going on because he left and went to the school. So, I left and went to the firehouse,” she said. “And I was there as the children were coming out and as the parents were arriving.”

Adams-Shepherd said it’s nice to know the St. Louis community remembers the victims five years later despite being a thousand miles away.
