JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. – An investigation is underway after a state senator said a cancer-causing pesticide was sent to her office Wednesday.
The substance was delivered to the office of Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal in an envelope that came in contact with several staff members, according to a press release from the Missouri Senate.
In a tweet, Chappelle-Nadal said the substance was sent to her office and a hazmat team was investigating. She later tweeted that the substance was a cancer-causing pesticide.
Although law enforcement believed the substance posed no threat to the public, they took extreme caution to ensure safety.
