Just over a week ago, the popular PrideFest in St. Louis announced it will have an entry fee for the first time ever, now community concern caused the organization to change their mind.

Instead of charging a $5 entry fee into the festival, it will raise the alcohol wristband to $2, up from $1 last year.

“Our goal has always been to serve our community. Pride St. Louis was founded by the community, for the community. You have asked us for transparency in why we felt it was necessary to charge. Last year’s festival presented several unforeseen circumstances, in part due to increased security as a result of the Pulse Nightclub shooting, as well as the dangerously hot weather. In light of these difficulties, we operated on a deficit, struggling to honor our financial obligations to organizations like Show Me Bears, Missouri Courage Scholarship, and others. In order to prevent this from occurring again, we’re counting on your support.” The organization said in a press release.

The organization says it has taken measures to reduce costs where possible by cutting their budget by 22 percent to honor their commitments to their partners while stilling funding initiatives.

PrideFest 2017 will be June 23-25 at Soldiers Memorial Park in downtown St. Louis.
