Officer Snyder's death hit one St.Louis family and their business particularly hard.
The Morrison family co-owns the Firehouse Grill, and as they tell Five On Your Side, they also know what it's like to lose a loved one in the line of duty.
14 years have passed since St. Louis fire fighter Rob Morrison lost his life on duty. Now his family is stepping up to offer help to the family of recently killed Officer Blake Snyder and unite other first responders in the area.
Early in life, Megan Morrison learned about duty and sacrifice.
"It's very devastating. I know exactly how [Snyder's] family feels, what they're going through," said Morrison Co-owner, Firehouse Bar and Grill.
In 2002, Morrison's father, Captain Rob Morrison died while fighting a fire with a fellow fire fighter.
"I just remember we had overwhelming support when my dad passed away, and I'm so blessed people are doing the same for the Snyder family," said Morrison.
But Morrison's 's family, and the other co-owners of Firehouse bar and grill- who are current or retired first responders are doing their part as well.
They plan to donate 15 percent of Wednesdays profits to Backstoppers.
"I know BackStoppers. They were there for my family and they're going to be there for their family just as much. I just really hope they know there are people looking out for them," said Morrison.
"This was very close to home. We're close to where we live and our place of business. This was a hard hit for everyone in this community," said Margie Heimrich, co-owner of Firehouse Bar and Grill.
Although more than a decade has passed since her father's death, Morrison say the danger faced by first responders on the job has only gotten worse.
"They get up every morning and go to work, and they don't know, and their families don't know if they're going to come home. we wanted to honor him and other first responders," said Morrison.
The benefit lasts Wednesday until midnight, in addition to donating 15% of all profits to BackStoppers, they will also have a 50/50 raffle for Officer Snyder's family.
