Suspect arrested after he hit and injured 2 Alton, Illinois police officers with a car

ALTON, Ill. – Police arrested a man who struck and injured two officers with his car Friday morning in Alton.

Around 3:40 a.m., Alton police responded to a report of a man with a gun at a home in the 1000 block of Tremont Street. During the investigation, officers discharged their weapons at the suspect after he hit and injured two officers with a car.

Police shot Lockhart an unknown number of times. 

Alton police said the suspect has been identified as 34-year-old Todd Lockhart, he escaped the scene in the same car he used to injure the officers. The car is a white Pontiac Grand Prix with Missouri registration AJ9D7Z and was last seen traveling southbound, into Missouri, via the Clark Bridge camera system.

Both injured officers were taken to a hospital for their injuries and have been released.

Around 6 p.m., Lockhart was taken into custody. He was taken to an area hospital for gunshot wounds. Once he is released from the hospital, he will be taken to the Madison County Jail in Edwardsville. 

According to Alton police, as a matter of departmental policy, the Illinois State Police have been called and are conducting an independent, unbiased, investigation of this incident. The officers involved have been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the Illinois State Police investigation.
