ST. LOUIS – Half a million babies are born prematurely in the U.S. every year.
The Wolf triplets of St. Louis, spent their first few months of life fighting to survive in the neonatal intensive care unit.
They were born at just 25 weeks, each weighing just one pound 10 ounces and barely a foot long.
Abigail, Madison and Elizabeth endured a total of six surgeries before they were six months old.
The scary truth is, premature birth and its complications are the largest contributors to infant death in the U.S.
But the Wolf family's story has a happy ending.
Abigail, Madison, and Elizabeth are now three years old.
And they're serving as the March of Dimes St. Louis Regional Ambassadors, along with their parents, Tricia and Andrew Wolf.
