MARYLAND HEIGHTS -- Police have issued multiple charges against a 45 year-old St. Louis County man, including the unlawful use of a weapon and resisting arrest in connection with an incident Saturday afternoon that resulted in multiple lanes of Interstate 270 being closed south of Highway 70.

Police say the man fired shots into the air, from the shoulder area of the interstate.

Maryland Heights Police say Marvin Byrd II was stopped along northbound I-270. He then got out of his car and started firing a gun into the air. When officers arrived, they gave Byrd several commands to show his hands, but he refused. Eventually, officers were able to get Byrd in custody. No one was injured in the incident.

Byrd is also charged with the unlawful possession of a firearm as a result of his being a convicted felon. Byrd is being held at the St. Louis County jail on a $40,000 bond.
