Man in critical condition after shooting in Franklin County

The Franklin County SWAT team was called in to assist after a suspect refused to leave an apartment following the shooting.

ST. CLAIR, Mo. – A man is in critical condition after a shooting occurred Saturday night.

Around 8:25 p.m., police responded to 1100 Park Drive for reports of a shooting. When officers arrived at the scene, they found an unconscious 31-year-old man on the sidewalk suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest.

Officers encountered a 56-year-old man in the doorway of an apartment close to where the victim was located.

When officers asked the man to leave the apartment, he refused, closed the door and stayed inside.

The Franklin County SWAT team was called in to assist. The man eventually came out of the apartment without further incident.

A handgun was seized from the apartment.

The 31-year-old man was taken to a hospital in critical condition.
