St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger is asking the St. Louis County Council to place a proposition on the April 2017 ballot to increase the county sales tax to go to public safety.

According to a press release from Stenger's Office, the proposition asks for a half-a-cent increase per-dollar in sales tax to go to improving the public safety of St. Louis County.

The release said, if passed, the proposition would let the county:

  • hire more officers
  • have a second officer in patrol cars when necessary
  • increase police salaries
  • expand officer training on topics like peaceful conflict resolution
  • provide body cameras
  • installing dashboard cameras

The proposition would be voted on by residents in April if it is approved to go to the ballot by the St. Louis County Council.
