United Way of Greater St. Louis mobilizes the community with one goal in mind — helping people live their best possible lives.

United Way efficiently raises and allocates funds to support a strong network of quality agencies and services; provides information, management and technical resources; identifies critical issues and unmet needs; and builds collaborations with the public and private sectors to meet those needs.

Throughout the day 5 On Your Side is calling attention to the work of the United Way, through their agencies and some of the people who benefit.

The College Bound program is an agency of the United Way

It provides free academic resources, social support and life skills to students who maybe don't have enough resources at home and high school.

Every week, these college bound participants come together with coaches who help them complete their college applications.

They also host classes to help students and parents fill out complicated FASFA applications.

Children’s Home Society of Missouri

Children’s Home Society is dedicated to improving the quality of life for children in need. One of their programs, the Guardian Angel program, enlists volunteers in the spend time with and take children with developmental disabilities out into the community.

Volunteers might spend an hour on-site reading, playing instruments or doing arts and crafts with the children, or participate in outings, which in the past have included trips to the Zoo, ice skating and going to concerts.
