The Louisville Silver Slugger Award, announced Thursday evening, was awarded to Wainwright for his strong presence at the plate during his 2017 season. He co-led the Major League with 11 RBI, tied with Cardinals pitcher Carlos Martinez; and seven runs scored, tied with Milwaukee Brewers pitcher Zach Davies. Wainwright also ranked first in the majors with his .262 batting average and his .452 slugging percentage, as well as his 127 career hits, 68 RBI, 34 doubles and 46 extra base hits.

Wainwright became only the third Cardinal pitcher to receive the award. He follows Bob Forsch in both 1980 and 1987 and Jason Marquis in 2005.
