Storm cleanup will keep St. Charles County neighbors busy during holiday weekend

The Wentzville Fire Department reported 11 emergency calls but no injuries

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, Mo. — Strong storms left behind a trail of debris in St. Charles County on Thursday.

Several Wentzville neighbors will have a busy Memorial Day weekend cleaning up limbs and debris.

“The house shook and I didn't know what was going on,” Barbara Sheets said. “I was sitting in the recliner. The house just shook. The tree fell from the backyard. I was just lucky to be on this end of the house.”

A tree landed on her home, poking a hole in the roof right above one of her bedrooms.

“Water in the carpet and the bed,” Sheets said. “All the insulation and the roof came down and the ceiling soaked. When it rains it pours, it's all happening at one time.”

Linda Styer lives right behind Sheets. Limbs landed on her roof but they weren’t big enough to cause damage. But they have a big cleanup effort ahead as trees and limbs fell into her yard.

"Luckily nothing got damaged, missed our shed, no holes in the roof so far,” Styer said. “Just a lot of good firewood laying around. So we will get it cut up. Very thankful it could’ve been a whole lot worse. We will get some buddies over here and get it all cleaned up.”
