(CCTV) - Twelve six-month-old giant pandas joined the celebrations of the Chinese Lunar New Year this week at the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding in Southwest China's Sichuan Province by showing skills that they just mastered.
Two pandas chased each other, but lacking a sense of bearing, they could easily run across the boundaries.
Other pandas were devoted to ball games and could hold the ball tightly in their hands.
Still others were deft in tree climbing, and skillful at it despite the branches.
Two of the pandas were found in fight with each other for a domain, kicking and even biting one other. A tender twig became the last straw for the one who seemed to be in defense but in his retreat he fell on the ground to amuse the viewers.
Divided into a higher and a lower class, the 12 pandas have been raised in the Sun Room and Moon Room separately.
"Pandas are solitary animals. By nature they need to fight for their domains, and the instinct is demonstrated at a very early age," said Yuan Bo, a panda keeper at the base.
In six months the 12 pandas grew to 10 to 15 kilograms, nearly 100 times the weight at their birth, Yuan said.
