(The Chirp) -- And it's off to Arizona for one local Cardinal fan who has succeeded in making the next cut in the MLB Fan Cave 2012 contest.
Kelsey Shea Weinrich of Wildwood, who now lives in Orlando, Florida - campaigned through social media to make the cut from 50 down to 30. The voting ended last Tuesday and it was announced this week, that Weinrich made it to the next round.
The winners of this contest will move into a 15,000-square-foot location in the heart of Greenwich Village, previously the home of Tower Records. There they will become social media celebs, chronicling experiences through videos, blogs, tweets and status posts.
30 finalists from an original field of more than 22,000 applicants have earned a trip to Arizona next week for a series of interactive challenges and interviews designed to determine the final group that will begin the 2012 season in the MLB Fan Cave in New York.
"All 50 of the fans who emerged from the initial 22,000 applicants deserve incredible praise and a hearty thank you from all of us at Major League Baseball, because they truly are among the most passionate and dedicated fans we've ever encountered," said Tim Brosnan, MLB executive vice president of business. "We had to make some extremely difficult decisions in order to determine the top 30, and while the Spring Training trip will be a lot of fun for all involved, in a way, we're really not looking forward to having to send any more of these great baseball fans home."
Now, Shea Weinrich is heading to Arizona. "I'll be there from Tuesday to Thursday. Here, they will put us through the ringer and again, we don't exactly know what to expect. There will be blogging, and there will, of course, be self-promotion. And we're all guessing there will be some interviews, but we just have to wait to find out!
I would expect they would pick the actual Fan Cave dwellers within the week or so after that. They have claimed they might choose 6, but that's a tentative number. So hopefully I can show them why a Cards fan needs to be in the cave!"
Good luck Kelsey!
