Hey Heidi: How much chocolate does Crown Candy Kitchen use for Easter?

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - It's not surgery, but Andy Karandzieff's work can get quite messy; deliciously messy as Easter approaches.

"Easter is a big candy holiday, it's the biggest candy holiday for us," Karandzieff, owner of Crown Candy Kitchen, points out.

It's something he's been preparing for since the second week of January.

"All chocolate combined we'll probably go through 7,000 or 8,000 pounds," Karandzieff explains.

That equals nearly 10,000 chocolate bunnies, big and small. Of course, that hasn't always been the case at this St. Louis treasure. When Crown Candy Kitchen opened in 1913, it did a very small amount of chocolate, but word spread and the flood gates opened.

"All these bunnies here have been poured by me personally with these two hands," Karandzieff says.

It's a job his dad handed down to him when he was in high school and he's been carefully pulling rabbits, pigs and elephants out of the cooler ever since.

He doesn't monkey around and that might make him the happiest person in St. Louis to see Easter melt away.
