PERRYVILLE, MO. - The Perryville Police Department is mourning the loss of their K-9.
Punter, battled an unknown illness that was slowly killing him, according to the police department. He was 6 years old and spent four of those years with the department. He was trained in narcotics detection, tracking and handler protection.
"Punter was a great working dog, he was extremely smart, but he was also a sweetheart of a dog. He was certainly part of the police family. There is no doubt that he could lift the spirit of the guys when he came running into the station. To say he will be missed is an understatement," Assistant Chief Bill Jones said.
The department is planning a memorial service for Punter.
"Punter was not only an officer, he was family. We will honor him as both at a later date with a Memorial Service," Chief Hunt said.
