Best friends celebrate 100th birthday together

Newton, Iowa (KCCI) - The 100 roses on Dorothy Pickett's table are a clue. This week is big.

"Well, I've seen a lot of changes," she said

Living on your own and walking to your 100th birthday party is amazing! But even wilder is celebrating with a friend who just turned 100.

"She's the old lady," Pickett said.

"I'm the great great grandma."

Just like Dorothy, Florence Koppin might be 100.

But she doesn't feel it.

So what's their secret?

"I didn't stay at home. I went as much as I could."

Both will tell you they still make a point of staying active.

"I've always worked hard, picked corn and all that kind of stuff."

"I ride the cycle every morning. Well, not every morning, but at least four or five days a week."

And they agree there's power in coffee time with friends and laughing.

"I laugh all the time."

But neither ate walnuts daily, focused on purple foods or took vitamin D.

"No. I eat what I want to eat. If it doesn't agree with me, I don't eat it. But I just eat about anything I want to eat really."

And getting good rest wasn't always a priority.

"I'm in bed by 10, but I've done a lot of dancing in my life, so I've had action."

So why are the girls born in 1914 still active in 2014?

"I don't think there's anything special that I did. I just lived a normal life."

Filled with family, friends, and 100 years of movement.
