Country music star Sara Evans on music, life and growing up in Missouri

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - She has sold nearly six million records and has recorded five number one country songs that fans know every word to and It all started 150 miles west of St. Louis in New Franklin, Missouri.

"It was called the Evans' Family Band and then naturally, the natural progression was to change it to the Sara Evans' Show," the country singer jokes.

She's still the standout and one of her big brothers is still playing bass in her band.

"He is three years older than me and he was mean to me growing up just like my son is to my daughter. They're the same exact age difference and I see it all repeating and so I always tell my daughter you just wait he can bully you now, but one day you're going to be his boss," Evans says.

Of course being the boss is a lot of work so she took a little break, but his back with a new single.

"The first single is a song called "Slow Me Down" and it's one of the best song I've heard in a very long time and we were so luck to have it pitched to us," Evans adds.

The video for the song stars fellow Missourian and NASCAR driver Carl Edwards, but unlike the song she has no plans of slowing down. She recently started a lifestyle blog and is learning to live by the lyrics of one of her other hits, "Perfect."

"I'm learning more and more everyday to love myself and not be so hard on myself, love myself unconditionally not based on how I perform or how I look and to focus on the things that truly matter," Evans explains.

It's a lesson we don't have to sing about to learn from.

Evan's new song Slow Me Down" is getting lots of play on the radio and you can look for her new album the first week of March.
