Elite athlete, cancer survivor becomes author

ST. LOUIS - You know her as a multi-sport athlete who's competed in the six major marathons in the world. Two years after being diagnosed with stage four colon cancer, Teri Griege finished the Ironman World Championship in Hawaii.

Teri has helped raise millions of dollars for cancer research through Pedal the Cause, and now she's written a book called Powered by Hope: The Teri Griege Story.

For the first time Teri is opening up about her battle with alcoholism and addiction. She joined First @ 4 to talk about why she wrote about this part of her life, and what she hopes will come of it. You can watch that interview in the player above this story.

On Wednesday, July 16 Teri will have a book signing at Athleta at Plaza Frontenac. The event will be held from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m., and attendees will have the opportunity to meet Teri and win door prizes.

Copies of her book can also be purchased through her website.
