You gotta hand it to Elton John for not shying away from the most sensitive of topics.
If Jesus Christ were around today, Elton says he'd be accepting and supporting of gay marriage. In an interview with Sky News, he explains that Jesus would also back same-sex marriage for clergy and an end to celibacy in the Catholic Church.
"These are old and stupid things, and the Church hierarchy might be up in arms about it — the traditionalists — but times have changed," he says. "We live in a different time. If Jesus Christ was alive today, I cannot see him, as the Christian person that he was and the great person that he was, saying this could not happen. He was all about love and compassion and forgiveness and trying to bring people together, and that is what the Church should be about."
Whether you agree or disagree, kudos to Elton for speaking his mind. The superstar singer is currently planning to marry civil partner David Furnish, and says it will be a "very quiet" affair that he hopes will take place sometime next year. "We had our big shebang when we had our civil union," he says.
