Florissant named No. 1 small city to retire in U.S.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) – For folks planning to retire and move to Florida, they might consider north St. Louis County as a better option.

A new survey released Wednesday showed Florissant, Mo. is the No. 1 small city to retire in the United States, according to Movoto, a real estate blog.

According to the blog, they looked at more than 140 small cities with populations between 50-60,000 and considered cost of living, crime rate, weather, ease of travel and other retiree amenities.

Florissant ranked at the top of the list due to its activities for retirees, such as dances, a golf league and community center activities and is close to St. Louis and Lambert-St. Louis International Airport.

In 2012, the city ranked No. 73 for the "Best Places to Live," according to CNN's Money magazine.

West Des Moines, Iowa and Lakewood, Ohio ranked No. 2 and No. 3, respectively.
