Most popular song in America inspired by the Kansas City Royals?

How is it possible that Lorde — the super popular teenage musician from New Zealand — told VH1 in September that her Billboard chart-topping single was inspired by the Kansas City Royals and we are just finding out about it now? I have no idea, but here we are.

From VH1 back in September:

"I had this image from the National Geographic of this dude just signing baseballs," Lorde told us when we sat down with her recently. "He was a baseball player and his shirt said, 'Royals.'" Lorde was so taken by the image and the word that she penned the song around that idea. "It was just that word. It's really cool."
