North Dakota woman knits 3K caps for children, homeless

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - One North Dakota woman has made it her mission to make sure the state's kids are protected from the cold when they head outside to the playground.

Cold weather doesn't freeze up Avis Dissell's fingers. She says she stays busy by knitting winter caps for complete strangers every day of the year.

"If I knit steady I can make one in about three hours, but I've made three or four in a day," she says.

Dissell knitted over 3,000 hats. She gives all them away to children and adults to warm their heads and hearts.
