Park Avenue Coffee goes green at new location

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - The last few weeks for Dale Schotte have been a bit of a grind.

"I'm working on no sleep, but I'm excited," said Schotte, owner of Park Avenue Coffee

That's because trying to get his newest Park Avenue Coffee location up and running has taken a bit more work than the other two.

"We've used as much rebuilt reclaimed building products as we can," Schotte said.

Scan the room and just about everything you see was once something else somewhere else.

"The table, the retail wall, the bar in the front that all came out of Cupples #7 building," Schotte said.

The counter was taken out of Crestwood Plaza, the lights from a church in Highland, Ill. and that's just what you see up front.

"So this is like the entrance to our roasting facility," Schotte said, leading us back to the door.

Behind the scenes the roasting process is also eco-friendly.

"Our coffee roaster is 91 percent more efficient than a traditional roaster, it doesn't require an after burner where all the energy is spent," he said.

Plus they have solar panels to power it. Pretty cool for a little coffee shop now in three city neighborhoods. A place that not only provides coffee, but a window into the past.

Park Avenue Coffee can be found downtown on 10th Street, in Lafayette Square on Park Avenue and near The Hill at 5105 Columbia.
