Dog abandoned with suitcase filled with belongings

SOUTH AYRSHIRE, Scotland – The Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is looking for the person who abandoned a dog in a railway station with a suitcase filled with his belongings.

The SPCA says a shar-pei mix named Kai was found Friday tied to a railing at the Ayr railway station in South Ayrshire. Next to him was a suitcase filled with all of his possessions, including a pillow, a toy, food bowl, and food.

SPCA officials say the dog had a microchip and they were able to track down the last registered owner of Kai, but that person said they had sold him in 2013. They did not have a record of the person who last owned him.

In Scotland, abandoning an animal violates the Animal Health and Welfare Act of 2006. If the person who abandoned Kai is tracked down and found guilty, they could face a lifetime ban from owning an animal.
