Places to be a tourist in your own town

ST. LOUIS - Temperatures have been down right brutal the last couple of months. It's enough to make anyone go a bit stir crazy so this morning Heidi Glaus put together a list of places to be a tourist in your own town.

The steps and sidewalks around the Saint Louis Art Museum were cleared early this morning. It might not seem like a place for children, but you can make it more interesting by creating a scavenger hunt.

The St. Louis Science Center provides hours of entertainment plus there are two movies on the OMNIMAX screen.

A stop at the Butterfly House at least makes you feel like things are warming up.

If you're up for a bit of a road trip, Meramec Caverns is a sight to see. Located an hour west of downtown St. Louis, Meramec Caverns is the largest commercial cave in the state of Missouri.

If you're looking for a more delicious family field trip Fitz's Root Beer is a fun family eatery plus you can see root beer being bottled.

Crown Candy Kitchen is always a treat and takes people back in time and on the morning after Hollywood's biggest night why not see one of this year's best movies.

A few other ideas, bowling alleys tend to be fun for kids of all ages. Monkey Joe's on Watson Road will burn off some of that extra energy and The Edge in Belleville boasts the world's largest laser tag arena.
