Rescan for new locations of stations: Due to the realignment of some station channels, you will have to rescan the frequencies on your TV tuner or digital converter box in order to find the new locations.

Do you need in-home assistance with installing your DTV converter box? The following Federal Communications Commission contractors and partner organizations may be able to assist you free of charge:

The St. Louis Fire Department and KETC/Channel 9 are still working together to provide in-home installation within the City of St. Louis. For help from the St. Louis Fire Department, consumers can call (314) 512-9617.

DIGITAL TELEVISION “COUPON FOR CONVERTER BOX” EXCHANGE CAMPAIGN COMES TO ST. LOUIS AND EAST ST. LOUIS

Consumers Who Still Need to Make the Switch Can Exchange Valid, Unexpired Coupons For A Converter Box At No Additional Charge on July 16 and 17

ST. LOUIS, MO - In the continuing effort to help those consumers who still need to make the switch to digital television, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC), DISH Network, and G2 Communications, Inc./Apollo Industries, are working together on a “Coupon for Converter Box” exchange campaign July 16 – 17, 2009 in the St. Louis area. On those dates, consumers with valid, unexpired DTV converter box coupons may exchange them for DISH Network’s DTVPal Plus converter box at no additional cost. Consumers with valid, unexpired coupons will also receive a free indoor antenna and free installation assistance from G2 Communications, Inc./Apollo Industries, an official FCC contractor for DTV converter box installation services.

Every household is entitled to two $40 coupons to help defray the cost of purchasing two digital converter boxes. Coupons may be ordered by calling 888-DTV-2009 (888-388-2009) or online at www.dtv2009.gov. Consumers who order converter box coupons in the next few days should received them in time for the “Coupon for Converter Box” exchanges.

Why are we going to digital?

As you probably have heard, American television is undergoing its biggest change since regular over-the-air broadcasts began more than 60 years ago. By June12, most TV stations will have discontinued the analog broadcasts we've watched for decades, joining those that have already gone to all-digital broadcasts. At that point, every full-power station in the country will transmit only digital TV (DTV) signals.

There are many good reasons for moving to digital. DTV will enhance day-to-day TV viewing, with more free channels to better picture and sound quality. The transition to digital broadcasts also frees up space on the airwaves, enabling better public-safety communications, improved emergency response, and faster wireless Internet services.

You might have to take some action. To enjoy this new, improved viewing, you must either have a newer TV set or a convertor box that enables your older TV to receive digital signals from an antenna. It may take a little effort to get the right setup initially, with occasional updates to get all the available channels. Any TV connected to a for-pay service from a cable, satellite, or phone company should continue to work as it does now.
