It's a messy job but Dave Endres loves doing it, his wife loves that he does it in the outside shed.
This form of creativity involves one organic ingredient....wood
"Wood just has a warm feeling about it" Dave says.
Dave's hobby is called "wood turning", not to be confused with "wood carving"!
Wood Turning uses a machine called a "lathe" that spins the wood while a stationary tool carves out shapes.
When most people just see a piece of wood, Dave sees art.
Dave was introduced to this skill by his father when he was around 8 years old.
As a teenager Dave soon realized that his hobby also makes a great gift, especially for his high school sweetheart, now wife.
"Beautiful" is a popular word used to describe Dave's finished pieces.
But he is as humble, as he is creative
This horticulturist by day can usually be found in his outside shed at night working on his next project.
He just has to make sure to dust off before he heads back into the house.
You can meet Dave * watch him turn wood at The Wood Working Show happening February 12th thru 14th at the Gateway Center in Collinsville Illinois.
At the show you'll find wood turners, wood carvers, hundreds of wood working supplies and equipment and more!
