ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - A young woman is dead following a late night accident on Interstate 70 Thursday.
According to the St. Louis Police Department, it happened in the westbound lanes between Branch and Salisbury around 11:00 p.m. Officers say a vehicle hit the median wall, then rolled three times.
According to police, two people were in the vehicle, a woman and her daughter. The daughter, 22-year-old Desiree Williams, was the passenger and was ejected from the car when it crashed. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
The mother was taken to the hospital with minor injuries. Officers say she is in police custody, but won't elaborate as to why.
This was the third deadly accident on a St. Louis area interstate in less than 30 hours. Wednesday night on Interstate 55, in south St. Louis, a man was hit and killed while he was standing outside of a vehicle putting gas into the tank. Early Thursday morning, in East St. Louis, a man was killed when he lost control of his vehicle on eastbound I-55/70/64. The accident forced officials to close westbound lanes and divert traffic off at the highway near Madison.
The investigation is ongoing. KSDK will have more information as it becomes available.
