St. Louis (KSDK) -- Turning on your television for the Super Bowl will give you an excuse to try out new technology.
Get ready for more fights over the remote control. Because of a free remote app that you can download, you can change the channel and raise the volume directly from your iPhone or iPad.
The remote apps only work on compatible TVs that are newer and are Wi-Fi enabled. You may need to purchase a Wi-Fi adapter, depending on the TV. Only then are you free to flip channels on your iPhone or iPad. There are also many remote apps on the market, and only certain ones will work with certain brands.
USA Today Tech Reporter Jefferson Graham met up with us via Skype to give us his take on using your iPhone or iPad as a remote control.
"If you have an iPad with 3G, you have to go into Wi-Fi mode and set it up, which is something you don't have to do with your battery powered remote control where you just pick it up and it works.," says Graham.
He also says the more you use your iPhone as a remote, the more likely the battery is going to run low.
