St. Louis trio tries to break basketball marathon record

MANILA, Philippines – Right now three St. Louis volunteers are in Manila raising money for Typhoon Haiyan relief.

Jeff Moore, 47; Tony Tatar, 45; and Chuck Williams, 48 are trying to break their own world record for the longest basketball marathon. They set the current record in downtown St. Louis in 2012 when they played for 112 consecutive hours.

The trio started playing Monday morning with 21 others from the Philippines. They are divided into team teams of 12, and allowed to rotate in and out of the game every two hours, which is in compliance with Guinness World Record rules. Their goal is to play for 120 hours.

The Discovery Channel is recording the event.
