ST. LOUIS (KSDK) – If you turn 250 years old, you better party…hard.
That's a sentiment St. Louis is taking to heart with its big 2-5-0 celebration, and Tuesday, local non-profit STL250 announced how the Gateway City is going big in April.
Here are some of bigger events:
Share the Celebration – St. Louis shares the birthday stage with other notables; Shakespeare turns 450 this year and Saint Louis IX, King of France, St. Louis' patron saint turns 800. From SHAKE 38 to a commemorative mass, the birthday parties continue!
Groove to the St. Louis Songbook – Several of our most distinguished performance groups stage concerts focusing on St. Louis' musical heritage. Whether its jazz, blues, classical or contemporary, join us to get your St. Louis groove on.
Explore Where We've Been… - Learn about Osage culture and traditions at various events; revisit St. Louis through the ages at Missouri History Museum's 250/250 exhibit or the Metromorphosis symposium at UMSL; visit a fur trapper encampment at the Chatillion-Demenil Mansion or reflect on the diversity of influences shaping St. Louis through MADCO's Liquid Roads performance.
…and Where stl250 is Headed – The 250th celebration isn't solely focused on our past, but also gives us many opportunities to discuss the future. From a regional fair housing training conference to 250 organizations promoting strong families and keeping children safe at the April Blue Ribbon Child Abuse Prevention Month event.
Go on a St. Louis Cake Hunt – More than 200 Cakeway to the West sculptures have been installed at places of note throughout the 15-county bi-state region. The stl250 app is a great tool to complement the cake hunt – it will allow users to collect cakes for the region-wide scavenger hunt, take pics, share with your friends and more. Cakeway to the West is a great activity for families, individuals and groups to explore the richness of St. Louis.
