Mission Statement

We are community advocates and take pride in our commitment to inform and protect. We showcase the greatness of St. Louis and accentuate the remarkable people who live here. We celebrate St. Louis’ rich heritage, promote the present and are passionate about the future.

About Us

We are not a TV station.

We are an information center that believes in connecting with our communities across all platforms with a passion for advocacy, pride in community service and above all, excellence in journalism.

Day in and day out, EVERYONE at KSDK is committed to inform and protect, to showcase the greatness of St. Louis and celebrate the remarkable people who live here.

Yes, our trophy case has more than 70 years of journalistic hardware, but that is NOT where we hang our hat. At KSDK, we are here for something bigger than ourselves – the opportunity to serve the greater good of St. Louis. We are part of the community, and they are part of us.

We are 5 On Your Side.

If the above made you feel inspired, excited, empathetic or any emotion that motivates you do to amazing things, apply now!

KSDK History

5 On Your Side has a rich broadcast heritage. We signed on the air in February 1947 as the seventh television station in the country, and since the very beginning we’ve been affiliated with NBC. We were known as KSD in the early years, and were pioneered by the Pulitzer publishing family.

Throughout our history, we’ve experience several firsts – we were the first television station on the air in St. Louis (and for six years the only television station in St. Louis), the first station in St. Louis to broadcast in color, the first to broadcast in stereo, and the first to broadcast in HD.

In the mid-1980s, KSDK was the broadcast home for The Sally Jessy Raphael Show, which was nationally-syndicated. In 2006, we were the eighth station in the United States to broadcast local news and programming in high definition.

During our more than 70 years on the air, we’ve been recognized with hundreds of awards, including regional and national Emmys and Edward R. Murrow Awards. Our community initiative, A Place to Call Home, has also been recognized on a national level.

On September 5, 1995, KSDK was purchased by Gannett, Co. Inc. In 2015, the broadcast division was spun off and became TEGNA Inc., where KSDK remains today. To learn more about TEGNA, visit tegna.com.
