Oakville hot sauce company Hot Charlie's brings flavor and heat

Some like it hot and that can be said for an Oakville man whipping up his own sauce.

Meet Charlie Backer, also known as Hot Charlie.

"That's what my wife calls me," he said.

It's also the name of the hot sauce he created.

"Everyone thinks, 'Oh, he's Hot Charlie.' I thought, okay, he likes hot sauce, his name is Charlie why not Hot Charlie," his wife Kelly said.

It all started 5 years ago when Charlie made his own batch of hot sauce in his Oakville kitchen.

"It was a super bowl years ago and I wanted to make something that has a ton of flavor with a ton of heat," Charlie said.

Just last year, friends convinced him to take his hot sauce and sell it.

"Some of our friends had the bottle over the weekend and texting me and said, 'Hey, you should sell it and it sort of blew up from there," he said.

Hot Charlie's is no longer made in his kitchen and more and more places are selling it everyday.
Like Oakville Butcher Block which also make Hot Charlie bratwurst.

He said, "It's me mailing my hot sauce or dropping it off and saying, 'Will you give my hot sauce a chance?'"

Hot Charlie's is made with things like fresh chipotle peppers, vinegar, and garlic. A recipe that even convinced his wife Kelly to love hot sauce.

"I've never been a hot sauce person and never thought it was possible but thanks to Hot Charlie's it is," Kelly said.
