More than a dozen separate lawsuits have now been filed against Harris-Stowe State University alleging race, sex, and age discrimination.

Just this past June, the Missouri Court of Appeals upheld a nearly $5 million verdict in a discrimination and retaliation lawsuit in favor of a former professor.

Another $2.5 million was awarded in 2015, but was reversed because of a jury instruction error. An attorney for the plaintiffs said the reversal was due to a technicality.

"It does not exonerate Harris-Stowe and it certainly doesn’t justify or negate the egregious and prejudicial nature of their conduct towards their former teacher Shereen Abdel Kader.” Thomas San Filippo said. "It is heartbreaking to see teachers be so horribly mistreated by an academic institution.
