Alton PD to increase patrols for holiday shopping crowds

The Alton Police Department also asked shoppers to help fight crime by hiding valuables out of sight and locking your car before entering stores.

ALTON, Illl. — Holiday shoppers in Alton have one less thing to worry about while going out and about for Black Friday weekend.

Beginning Thursday and running through Friday, Alton police will have two extra officers for Thanksgiving night, and four additional officers for Black Friday. Alton Police Chief Jason Simmons said their primary function for more patrols will be to deter crime while patrons are shopping.

The Alton Police Department also asked shoppers to help fight crime by hiding valuables out of sight and locking your car before entering stores.

Showing large amounts of money while out and about may make a person a more appealing target for a criminal. If you have to carry a lot of cash, keep it out of sight in your wallet or purse,” said Chief Simmons in a statement.

Anyone who sees suspicious activity while they're shopping should call the Alton Police Department at (618) 463-3505, or 911.
