A few weeks ago, following the controversial Jason Stockley decision and the protests that resulted, 5 On Your Side viewer Lou Ann Tinnes wrote to reporter Art Holliday:
"I'm an old white lady. I don't know what it's like to be a black man. I don't know what it's like to be a cop. I don't know what it's like to be a suspect in a crime. I don't know what it's like to be chased by a cop. I don't know what it's like for a cop chasing a suspect. I would like to know about these protests. I can't understand what they want."
5 On Your Side gathered several stakeholders in our studio to respond to Ms. Tinnes' questions.
Christian Johnson is an Army veteran, former St. Louis police officer, and is now an activist who has attended several of the post-Stockley protests. Eliza Coriell is the owner of the Crow's Nest bar who wrote a letter in support of protesters and systemic change in St. Louis which was signed by more than 150 small business owners. Tom Schweizer is a retired businessman who wrote a book about white privilege and leads discussions about race.
