FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo. – A man was charged Monday after he allegedly kidnapped a woman who escaped by running into the office of a BP gas station and calling police, deputies said.

The Franklin County Sheriff's Office said Russell E. Deshields, 36, was charged with one count of first-degree kidnapping for his alleged role in the Sunday incident.

Deputies said a 42-year-old woman met up with Deshields — a man against whom she had an order of protection — in an attempt to retrieve some personal property.

Deputies said when she met up with Deshields in the Lake Thunderbird neighborhood off Highway 30, he took her car keys, smashed her cell phone and made death threats before forcing her into his car. He then drove her into Jefferson County, where she asked him to stop at a gas station, the BP near the intersection of Highway 30 and State Road Y.

She walked into the store and told the clerk what was happening before running into the gas station office to call police.

By the time police arrived, Deshields was already gone. On Monday, Franklin County Deputies secured an arrest warrant and took him into custody in his own home. He was hiding under a bed when police found him.

He was charged with first-degree kidnapping. His bond was set at $100,000.
