ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - Edward Jones and Scottrade have made FORTUNE's list of "100 Best Companies to Work for in 2013."
Scottrade makes its sixth consecutive appearance on the list this year at number 53.
"Thirty-three years ago, I founded this company to provide a better way for people to self-direct their investments," said Rodger Riney, Scottrade's founder and chief executive officer. "As our clients' needs have evolved along with the markets, our associates' hard work and dedication has enabled Scottrade to expand its in-person and online services, which today includes online banking. Our success is attributed to our focus on creating a positive, engaging, and productive work environment."
More than 3,600 people are employed by Scottrade in more than 500 offices in St. Louis, Denver, Phoenix, and Chicago.
Edward Jones ranks eighth this year, making their 14th appearance on the list.
"Our 30,000 financial advisors, branch office administrators and associates in our home offices are highly motivated by our work helping individual investors," said Edward Jones Managing Partner Jim Weddle. "We are proud of the high level of personal service we offer."
A spokesperson for Edward Jones says FORTUNE chooses the companies based on extensive employee surveys conducted by the Great Place to Work Institute, given to a random sample of employees, and by how the company responds to the Culture Audit which asks questions about pay and benefit programs, hiring practices, internal communications, training, recognition programs, and diversity efforts.
Edward Jones has 12,000 financial advisors that work with nearly seven million clients.
