Staying safe from online shopping scams

ST. LOUIS – A new study shows shopping scams have increased by almost 40 percent this year.

Our phones are great but when you're on a WiFi connection that you don't own, try not to shop from your device. Smartphones don't have any of the virus and safety measures that computers have in place.

Also, be very careful what you click. Never click on a link you receive in any email ever, even if you know the store. They're filled with phishing scams, and sometimes not even from the store. Copy and paste the link, or drag your mouse over the link without clicking and you'll see where it's really directing you.

If you ever find a deal that claims to be 50 percent off or more on Apple, Beats by Dre, Uggs, or Playstation it's bogus. These brands are price-controlled and will never be discounted like that.
