BREESE, Ill. (KSDK) – Police are launching an investigation after a woman was found dead near Old U.S. 50. She appeared to have been struck by a vehicle.
The victim has been identified as 23-year-old Lana Albert of Odin, Illinois.
"She's a fantastic girl, she would light a room up, I mean just on entering and we are still trying to grasp it, and it's just so hard because she was just such a fantastic young lady," said her father Ray Albert.
"She was perfect, she was beautiful and she was caring," said her cousin, Sierra Horst.
Her family says they are overwhelmed by the love and support shown as word traveled about the accident.
Police tell us Albert was last seen at Big Stix Sports Bar and Grill with friends.
Then around 2 a.m. she left on foot heading westbound on Old Highway 50 in Breese.
A driver spotted the woman walking down the highway and called 911.
Police say an officer responded, finding a shoe in the street and Albert's body near the road with no one else around.
Her family just wants closure and end to this tragic story.
"I just can't believe that someone didn't see something, and I know that someone had to of," Horst said.
"It's not because we want to get anyone in trouble, we just want to know what happened to our baby and it's just tough," says Albert.
The Day Macz Funeral Home in Sandoval, Illinois is handling the funeral arrangements which have not yet been set.

Lana Albert's visitation is scheduled for 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday and the funeral is on Friday at 11 a.m. Both are at City Hope Church in Centralia.
