7-year-old boy killed in Mehlville house fire

ST. LOUIS COUNTY (KSDK) - A 7-year-old boy is dead after an overnight house fire in south St. Louis County.

Firefighters rushed to a home on the 700 block of Hinder at around 12:30 a.m Monday.

Seven-year-old Brian Davis, his 13-year-old sister, and his grandmother were asleep inside the house when it caught fire, police say.

The 13-year-old woke up to the sound of the blaze, and alerted her brother. Together, they made their way toward the front door, but at some point, became separated in the smoke. The 13-year-old fled through the front door.

The grandmother escaped the home from a second story window, breaking her right heel.

Firefighters pulled Davis out of his bedroom. He was pronounced dead at St. Anthony's, with doctors saying that he most likely died from smoke inhalation.

The grandmother and 13-year-old were treated and released.

The cause of the fire is currently under investigation by the St. Louis County Bomb and Arson Unit.
