A note about NewsChannel 5 program interruptions

ST. LOUIS (KSDK) - We know many of you were angry with us on Saturday for severe weather coverage that interrupted NBC's coverage of the Belmont Stakes and a prospective Triple Crown winner.

The First Alert Weather Team saw this system coming and the storms were right on schedule and as severe as expected. We devised a plan to show you both the severe weather coverage and the preparations for the race and we repeatedly reassured you that we would allow the race to run without interruption, which we did, but we knew it was a situation that would not please everyone.

Our first and most important responsibility is for the safety of the area we serve and we take that responsibility as seriously for St. Charles County, Missouri as we do for Monroe County, Illinois, both of which were under tornado warnings.

If it's your area, you want that information. When the danger has passed you, you want your TV back, and we get that. We're sorry you were angry with us, but we can't apologize for wanting to keep you safe. The FCC demands it of its licensees and we demand it of ourselves because you're our neighbors and we want to prepare and protect you when we can.
