Air show crowds cause heavy traffic

CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (KSDK) - For the first time in seven years, the spirit of St. Louis air show is back in Chesterfield.

The show got off to a great start on Saturday with a much larger than expected crowd. But that caused problems on the roads.

Cars were backed up for miles in every direction as thousands of people converged on Spirit of St. Louis airport.

Chesterfield police and air show organizers say Sunday visitors should leave hours earlier than planned in order to avoid long to delays.

Airshow spokesman Mark Sutherland says between the air show and Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics exhibit families can stay busy for a full day.

"It's the only air show in town this year. And there's plenty to see and do both on the ground and in the air," he said.
