PALM BEACH, FL -- An elementary school teacher was disciplined for her nose stud.
Julie Roberts teaches first grade at Hobe Sound Elementary School.
She wanted a way to remember her father, so she got her nose pierced on the first anniversary of his death.
The two millimeter diamond stud caused months of fighting and frustration.
A parent complained about the piercing and the district ordered Roberts to remove it or possibly get fired.
District officials called it unprofessional and distracting.
"When I was wearing it," says Roberts, "I don't feel that I had more energy by wearing it or not wearing it or that I didn't feel like it affected me, I just had that constant reminder of my dad."
Roberts will replace the stud with a bandage when she returns to class in August.
