KSDK -- The road to fame or infamy on the 'Biggest Loser' for Bette Sue Burklund started by accident. The idea was simply a way to get her daughter Ali to lose weight.
"So I told her I will save a place in line for you, be the marker and she says, you know it's couples this year," Burklund remembers.
It was at that moment she knew her life was about to change.
"My heart just fell cause I knew I was the fat person that she knew. So five o'clock the next morning, there we were in line," Burklund says.
Ah, the lengths a mother will go to for her child.
"You know she really, really wanted it and I thought you know hot pink sports bra, 13 million viewers, oh whatever," Burklund says with that big laugh.
The two became a dangerous duo to deal with.
"I think it should have been rated and kids shouldn't have been allowed to see that," she says referring to herself in biker shorts and a sports bra.
"Besides that, I mean it's been fabulous. I've lost a few myself," Burklund adds.
She was an entertaining fan favorite who by the end of the show had lost 75 pounds.
"Now I'm down about 106 or so, well I'm too old to go through that workout stuff again like they do on the show," she says.
Actually, you might be surprised at what surprised her the most.
"That they didn't let us do different workouts for being heavier or older! I thought surely when the cameras are gone they'll go okay you're old and heavy come over here we'll give you different exercises, but they didn't," Burkland adds.
Nope, same routine for everybody. These days she's often on the road with Ali and tossing out what she calls no BS by BS.
Ali and Bette Sue were on season five. You can watch the latest season on Tuesday's at 7:00 p.m. on NewsChannel 5.
