KSDK - How do the Cardinals uniforms stay so white?  That is the Hey Heidi question NewsChannel 5's Heidi Glaus was dared to find the answer to from Louise Haar-Chapman from Alton, Illinois.

It is a mother's worst nightmare when it comes to laundry.

We're talking grass stains, red clay and even pine tar, but when the Cardinals take the field, those uniforms are always spotless thanks to Ernie Moore, the assistant equipment manager for the team.

"Yeah, I'm the laundry guy,"  Moore says.

A guy who comes in around 11 a.m. for a 7:15 p.m. game and leaves quite a bit later than slugger Matt Holliday.

"We're out of here about two, two and a half hours after the game," Moore explains.

That's because he's doing seven or eight loads of laundry.  His secret?

"Regular Tide to start off with and then we throw in, I guess this is kind of a secret, protein release agent we get from a laundry company," Moore says.

That helps with the grass stains, but there's something even more powerful for the clay.

"This is a corrosive acid, slide out one and slide out two," Moore shows us.

It's something that has to be handled with gloves and then there's the pine tar.

"It's a carpet and fabric spotter and we use that to get out the pine tar," Moore points out.

Heck, he even knows how to use a sewing machine which means he might be better in the laundry room than his wife.

"Um, do I have to answer that on camera?" Moore asks.

I'm afraid he just did.
