KSDK -- Stan Musial had one of the most celebrated playing careers in St. Louis Cardinal history.

From 1941 to 1963, Musial was a 24-time All-Star selection and accumulated 3,630 total hits. He was also named the National League's Most Valuable Player three times and was a World Series champion in 1942, 1944 and 1946. At the time of his retirement, Musial held seventeen major league records and twenty-nine National League records.

Musial recorded his 3,000th major league hit on May 13, 1958 at Wrigley field. It was a pinch-hit, sixth inning RBI double. He was the eighth major league player to reach 3,000 hits.

In this archive video, Musial comments on his 3,000th hit and on his career. There is video of Musial playing baseball and of Musial being congratulated by Missouri Governor Jim Blair, U.S. Senator Stuart Symington, and St. Louis Mayor Ray Tucker.

His jersey number 6 was retired in 1963 by the Cardinals, and a statue of Musial can be seen behind the west side of Busch Stadium.
