Nine St. Louis-area high schools among "America's Best High Schools"

KSDK -- Nine local high schools are among 13 statewide campuses to be ranked among Newsweek's best in the nation.

More than 1,600 schools made the list, representing six percent of the approximate 27,000 public high schools in the country.

To qualify for the list, high schools must have administered more Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate of Cambridge (AICE) tests than the number of seniors graduating that given year.

Ladue Horton Watkins High School was rated the second best high school in the state and ranks 282 in the country.

The other local schools, with their respective rankings, include:

--Metro Academic & Classical High School (State - 3; National - 426)
--Clayton High School (State - 4; National - 447)
--Rockwood Summit High School (State - 5; National - 625)
--Eureka High School (State - 6; National - 669)
--Lafayette High School (State - 7; National - 674)
--Marquette High School (State - 8; National - 701)
--Lindbergh High School (State - 10; National - 781)
--Parkway West High School (State - 13; National - 1,577)
